Pickleball Court at Dorothy Hyatt Center: Girls Inc. of Columbus, Phenix-Russell has opened a brand-new pickleball and basketball court at the Dorothy Hyatt Center, offering local girls a dedicated space to learn and enjoy the fast-growing sport.
The new facility, made possible by the generosity of Suzanne and Jack Hughston and Hughston Homes, was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the transformation of a former pool area into a multi-sport court.
The Vision Behind the Project
The initiative was spearheaded by former CEO Dr. Gail Burgos, whose partnership with the Hughston family helped bring this vision to life. The addition of pickleball at Girls Inc. aligns with the organization’s mission to empower young girls through sports, education, and mentorship.
With pickleball rapidly surging in popularity, Girls Inc. hopes that early exposure to the sport could lead to future scholarship opportunities for participants.
