Hudson Pickle Hosts Third Annual Fundraiser: Hudson Pickle is set to host its third annual pickleball fundraiser on Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at the Sleepy Hollow High School and Middle School gymnasium. The event will benefit the Kids’ Club of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, a non-profit dedicated to supporting underserved local youth.
Growing Pickleball for a Cause
Pickleball’s popularity has soared in recent years, attracting players of all ages and skill levels. Seeing a need for organized play in the river towns, residents Marni Rose and Rich Pacheco founded Hudson Pickle in 2021.
The organization has since expanded to include coaching, clinics, open play, and tournaments. Rose, a USA Pickleball Ambassador, is passionate about growing the sport.
“I’m really into growing the sport and getting new people involved. It’s easy to pick up, you can get into it very quickly, and you can spend the rest of your life gaining new skills.” – (rose)
Tournament Details and Divisions
The fundraiser will follow a double round-robin format, with players sorted by skill level to ensure balanced competition. This year, the event is introducing two new youth divisions alongside the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced categories.
- Entry Fee: $60 per person (discounts available for kids and teachers).
- Format: Double round-robin with playoffs.
- Spectators Welcome: Bleacher seating available for fans.
Supporting Local Youth Through Kids’ Club
The Kids’ Club of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, now in its 15th year, serves nearly 1,500 families annually, funding food pantries, school programs, summer camps, enrichment activities, and college prep initiatives. Jennifer Green, the organization’s president since 2016, expressed gratitude for Hudson Pickle’s ongoing support.
“Kids’ Club is thrilled to again be the beneficiary of Hudson Pickle’s third annual fundraising pickleball tournament. We look forward to another great day of community fun and competition, and are eager to put the funds raised to use.” – (Green)
Over the past two years, the event has raised nearly $10,000, with each tournament bringing in over $4,000. This year, the goal is to increase participation and donations.
