Pickleball in Fort Lauderdale: Fort Lauderdale is now home to a pickleball paradise, as The Fort, a $30 million mega-facility, officially opened its doors in January. Spanning 10 acres near Snyder Park, The Fort boasts 43 courts, including 14 covered courts and the world’s first dedicated pickleball stadium.
A World-Class Pickleball Destination
With live-streamed courts, a pro shop, and cutting-edge training technology, The Fort is designed for serious competitors and social players.
Members can record and review their matches to improve their game, while casual players can enjoy a resort-like atmosphere with a lakeside restaurant, a recovery center, bocce, cornhole, beach volleyball, and even musical concerts.
“The lake and beach area are set to open in April, followed by the stadium and restaurant by the end of May.” – (co-founders Brad Tuckman)
Hosting National and International Pickleball Events
The Fort has already partnered with the Association of Pickleball Professionals (APP) to host two national tournaments each year, with additional international event requests pouring in.
“We’re also receiving requests for international events. People are calling us the Wimbledon of pickleball or the Augusta of pickleball, which is both humbling and incredibly exciting.” – (Tuckman)
Despite its scale, The Fort was 100% privately funded by its ownership group, with no financial contributions from the city. However, its impact is expected to drive long-term economic benefits for Fort Lauderdale.
A Hub for Local Players and Cruise Ship Travelers
The Fort is already a pickleball hotspot, with over 650 members, including 250 who signed up before it even opened. The pickleball courts are packed every night, drawing in players like Kristin Howell, a long-time enthusiast who plays at The Fort five times a week.
“I got lucky — my timing was right. This is a next-level facility. They say it’s a ‘resort-style’ facility, but it’s way better than that. – (Howell)
Beyond serving locals, The Fort is positioning itself as a must-visit destination for cruise ship travelers, providing a place for passengers to relax, grab a meal, and even play a game of pickleball before or after their trips.
Membership and Pricing
The Fort offers day passes for $20 (6 a.m. to midnight), while monthly memberships range from $69 to $159, with discounts available for military personnel and first responders.
For many, the experience at The Fort is unmatched. Dr. Bret Ribotsky, a retired surgeon turned avid player, summed it up best.
“It’s the Disney World of pickleball. It blows your mind because everything is here. It’s built by pickleballers for pickleballers.” – (Ribotsky)
“The best way I can sum up pickleball at The Fort is this: ‘Finally, a positive addiction.’” – (Ribotsky)
