Bellaire Invests in Pickleball with 1.4M Dollars Grant to Transform Recreation Scene

Bellaire Invests in Pickleball: A new recreation and entertainment complex, featuring an eight-court pickleball facility, is set to begin construction after Bellaire secured a $1.4 million grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Mining Resources.

Pickleball Courts and More in Commerce Park

The Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization (AMLER) grant, valued at $1,468,912, will fund the project at Commerce Park along Ohio 149. The complex will include:

  • Eight tournament-ready pickleball courts.
  • A performance stage for concerts and events.
  • A concession stand and new restrooms.
  • Lighting and parking facilities.
  • A walking trail around the perimeter.

Councilwoman Janet Richardson highlighted that the complex will serve as a recreational and economic hub, bringing pickleball tournaments, memberships, and entertainment to Bellaire.

“The facility will provide an entertainment venue and healthy recreational space for all residents while promoting economic growth.” – (Richardson)

Community Effort Behind the Project

Richardson credited several individuals and organizations for their efforts in securing the funding, including the Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association, Pastor Bill Marinelli, Chadan Engineering, Phylliss Barnhart, and Finance Director Marla Krupnik.

What’s Next?

With funding secured, planning and construction efforts will now shift into full gear. Once complete, the pickleball courts and entertainment space could bring tournaments, visitors, and economic activity to Bellaire.
