Pickleball at Greene County Fun Day: Big Fun in Small Town

Pickleball at Greene County Fun Day: This Saturday, the town of Rippey in Greene County invites everyone to come out for a day filled with excitement and companionship. Rippey Fun Day is set to start a lively series of events that will present local talent, delicious food, and, of course, a strong sense of community.

A Parade to Remember

The festivities begin bright and early with the annual parade, where participants will gather at the fire station starting at 9 a.m. to check in and line up. The parade is set to roll out at 10 a.m., winding its way through town with a route that leads to Sparky’s One Stop Gas Station, then onto Lovejoy, and finally ending at the Greene County Secondary Roads shed. It’s a perfect way to bring neighbors and visitors together in celebration.

Pickleball Tournaments and Local Fare

As the parade wraps up, the action continues with exciting three-on-three basketball and pickleball tournaments kicking off at 11 a.m. Local vendors will be on hand, providing a marketplace atmosphere while the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association grills up a hearty meal on Main Street. It’s the kind of local fare that brings everyone together—nothing says community like good food shared among friends.

Chelsi Lawrence, one of the co-organizers, highlights the array of activities that follow. From 1 to 4 p.m., the fire station area will transform into a hub of horsepower with a show featuring cars, trucks, tractors, semis, and motorcycles. For just a $20 entry fee, participants can present their vehicles and compete for prizes. There’s even a separate truck show organized by high school students, adding a youthful flair to the day.

At 2 p.m., the spotlight turns to fitness with the 3K Color Run/Walk, which kicks off from the city park. For a mere $5 per person or $25 for a family, participants will navigate a lively route where they’ll get doused in color and enjoy goodies along the way. Lawrence is hopeful for a great turnout, knowing that community events like this bring out the best in everyone.

Petting Zoo, Lawn Games, and Delicious Meals

For those looking to enjoy a more laid-back atmosphere, a petting zoo will be open from 3 to 7 p.m., alongside lawn games by the basketball courts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The First United Methodist Church will serve a delicious meal from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., featuring pulled pork sandwiches, desserts, and homemade ice cream. It’s the kind of meal that makes you feel right at home.

Adding to the day’s festivities is a beer tent located in front of the library, where attendees can relax and unwind. Raffles will be held featuring two custom-painted toolboxes created by local artisan Colby Baugh, with tickets available for just $10—a fun way to support the community.

As the sun begins to set, the local Town and Country Band will take the stage from 6 to 7 p.m., providing live music that sets the tone for the evening. A baseball game at Walt Anderson Field will follow at 7:30 p.m., leading into the grand finale: a dazzling fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. But the fun doesn’t stop there—a street dance will keep the energy going from 10 p.m. until midnight, ensuring that the celebration ends on a high note.

Rippey Fun Day is more than just an event; it’s a testament to the power of community. In a small town where every face feels familiar, this day serves as a gathering point for old friends and new faces alike. With an action-packed schedule that offers something for everyone, Rippey is poised to show that even the smallest towns can deliver the biggest fun.
