Pickleball enthusiasts in South Mississippi will soon have a new place to play as Southern Swing Sports opens near the Mississippi Antique Galleria on Pass Road in Gulfport. The new facility will feature a dedicated pickleball court, golf simulators, and baseball and softball batting cages, providing a space for athletes of all levels.
A Pickleball Destination for All Skill Levels
Southern Swing Sports partner Nikki Skrmetti emphasized that the facility welcomes beginners and competitive players.
“We want everyone who wants to learn how to play pickleball to feel like they could come here. Someone who plays competitively could come play pickleball here. We want someone who loves to golf on the course but it’s a rainy day or they want to use our simulators. We want someone who’s just starting out in golf who would like to come and use the simulator to get some practice.” – (Skrmetti)
With the sport rapidly growing in popularity, Southern Swing Sports aims to provide a high-quality space where players can improve their game and enjoy the sport year-round.
Creating Opportunities for Everyone
In addition to pickleball, the facility will offer a variety of sports activities for all ages. Vicki Williams, a mother of two daughters, praised the center’s commitment to creating opportunities for young athletes, especially girls.
“They don’t really have a whole lot of opportunities like this for girls. With softball and the need for it, I think also covers not just catering to the up-and-coming ages for the boys but also for girls.” – (Williams)
Grand Opening on March 15
Southern Swing Sports will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, March 15. Doors will open at 10 a.m., with the official ceremony starting at noon. Following the ceremony, the venue will host a hitting clinic led by Barry Lyons, giving young athletes a chance to develop their skills.
“Immediately following the ceremony, we’ll host a hitting clinic put on by Barry Lyons. We’re hoping that we’ll be able to get some kids in and have our very first clinic immediately following the grand opening.” – (Skrmetti)
