The tournament is designed to welcome players of all skill levels, encouraging both newcomers and seasoned athletes to compete in a fun and competitive atmosphere.
“Grab a paddle, find a partner, and get ready for a weekend of fun, fitness, and fierce competition,” added Supervisor Saladino.
Oyster Bay’s Growing Pickleball Scene
This event marks a significant milestone for Oyster Bay’s pickleball community, which has grown steadily since 2018, when Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board began expanding pickleball facilities.
New courts were originally introduced in Bethpage, Bayville, Massapequa, and Oyster Bay, providing residents with more opportunities to play.
Continued Expansion of Pickleball Facilities
Since then, the Oyster Bay Town Board has continued investing in the sport’s growth. In 2023, new pickleball courts were added at Tappen Beach, Plainview-Old Bethpage, Anchor Park, and Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park. Early plans are also underway for additional courts in Farmingdale and Massapequa, ensuring that even more residents have access to the game.
A New Tradition in the Making
With pickleball’s rising popularity, the inaugural Oyster Bay Pickleball Tournament is expected to become a highly anticipated annual event. Local players and visitors alike will have the chance to compete, socialize, and celebrate the sport in a competitive yet welcoming environment.
