Morristown Plans Pickleball Court Relocation to Address Noise Concerns

Morristown Plans Pickleball Court Relocation: The Morristown town council is working on a plan to move the town’s pickleball courts to a non-residential area, according to Town Administrator Jillian Barrick. The relocation aims to address noise concerns and other community issues raised by residents living near the courts.

Pickleball Relocation Pending Budget Approval

Construction on the new pickleball courts could begin as early as fall, pending budget approval, Barrick announced during Tuesday’s town council meeting.

During the public comment session, two residents expressed concerns about sound pollution, people sleeping on the courts, and public urination. The move is expected to create a more suitable playing environment while addressing these ongoing issues.

Addressing Homelessness in Morristown

In addition to the pickleball discussion, Michael Callahan, director of the Office of Homelessness Prevention, spoke about efforts to increase support services in Morristown.

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs plans to deploy more 24-hour street outreach workers to assist Morristown police and provide emergency sheltering.

Councilmember Robert Iannacone suggested that homelessness prevention services should be funded at the county level, citing Bergen County as an example of a centralized resource model.

Council Vice President David Silva recommended that the state partner with a non-profit organization to develop a rehabilitation program for individuals in need.

“Our goal has always been to be compassionate with all of our residents in whatever way is necessary.” – (Barrick)
