Mountain View Park Opens New Pickleball Courts: Pickleball is gaining momentum in Pocono Township as new courts open at Mountain View Park. Construction began last June to replace underused basketball courts, and now, players finally have a dedicated space to enjoy the sport.
A Growing Sport in Pocono Township
Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S., attracting players of all ages. “It’s a very popular, fastest-growing sport in the US, and even on the professional level, is getting more popular,” said Cheryl Bliss of East Stroudsburg. Jeff Bliss, also from East Stroudsburg, appreciates the outdoor setting.
“It’s a great activity because you’re outside, you can go to the gym and work out and all that, but this time of year it is just so nice.” – (Jeff Bliss)
Players Excited for New Courts
Before the courts opened, local players had to rely on indoor facilities.
“We play indoors at Northampton Community College, and to be able to play outside in this beautiful area, we have the mountains in the background, we enjoy playing here.” – (Cheryl)
Cheryl also highlighted the benefits of the new courts.
These are designated pickleball courts unlike the ones we use over at Chipperfield, the school those are not designated, and we have to chalk the lines, and if it rains, we have to put more chalk down.” – (Cheryl)
A Quality Playing Experience
The newly built courts are a major improvement for local players.
“They are very good, and the surface is wonderful. The nets are perfect, so you’re not playing with tennis nets, you’re playing with pickleball nets, so you can’t get anything better; these courts are absolutely beautiful.” – (Bliss)

The addition of these courts is expected to boost the sport’s popularity in the area. More residents now have access to a dedicated space for pickleball, encouraging social connections and physical activity.
