Scottsdale Serves Up Free Pickleball Courts: Scottsdale Parks and Recreation has teamed up with Scottsdale Community College (SCC) to offer free drop-in pickleball play, addressing the growing demand for courts in the city. The partnership provides residents with access to SCC’s six courts daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., except during holidays, campus closures, or scheduled classes.
Free Play and Instruction Opportunities
The pickleball courts, located west of SCC’s Fitness Wellness Center, will be available for the public to use at no cost. In addition, SCC will introduce instruction-based programs for a small fee, allowing new and experienced players to hone their skills. Further details on classes and clinics will be released on SCC’s website.
Pickleball ranked among the top five most requested recreational activities in Scottsdale’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan, highlighting the sport’s rapid rise in popularity. This collaboration ensures that more players have a place to play and learn the game.
Support for SCC and Future Expansion
In return, Scottsdale will promote SCC’s pickleball activities in its Scottsdale Life Magazine and through social media. The city will also contribute up to $1,000 per year for equipment replacement to maintain court quality.
“This partnership allows us to meet the growing demand for pickleball use in Scottsdale,” said Community Services Assistant Executive Director Nick Molinari.
“It expands access to instruction and play for our residents – while allowing us to support SCC’s commitment to recreational opportunities, as well.” – (Nick Molinari)
The agreement is set for an initial two-year term, with the option to extend for three additional one-year periods if both parties agree.
