KidWorks Women’s Pickleball Event: The annual KidWorks Women’s Pickleball for a Purpose fundraiser will take place on Thursday, April 3, at The Tennis Club at Newport Beach Country Club. The event, running from 10:45 a.m. to 3 p.m., raises funds for KidWorks, a non-profit supporting students in under-resourced areas of Santa Ana.
Over the past four years, the pickleball event has generated over $300,000 for KidWorks programs. Last year alone, it raised nearly $80,000, setting a new record. Proceeds benefit KidWorks’ College and Career Programs, which help first-generation students pursue higher education. These initiatives include College Apps Academy, Campus Crash, college counseling, and care packages for students.
Event Supports Education and Future Leaders
KidWorks Women, a volunteer auxiliary group, organizes the event to further the nonprofit’s mission. The program provides students with resources and mentorship to help them excel academically and develop leadership skills.
“As a KidWorks Pickleball sponsor, you are helping to place students on a direct path towards college success,” said KidWorks Director of Philanthropy Lisa Gels. KidWorks CEO and Executive Director David Benavides emphasized the importance of sponsorships in sustaining these efforts.
“Your support ensures our deserving students will continue to benefit from robust college and career programs. Activities like our College Apps Academy, Campus Crash and mentorship programs are designed to prepare first generation, low-income students on their journey towards college success.” – (David Benavides)
Sponsorships and Community Involvement
The 2025 event committee includes chair Debbie Trammell and members from Newport Beach: Holly Anderson, Wendy Hafer Cox, Heather Gaughan, Beth Hallett, Lori Junkins, Susie Luer, Kirsten Minasian, Sharon Rinker, Sharon Roy, Jill Schriber, and Leslie Seidner.
Additional members include Kathy Ursini, Kyle Team, Janet DiChiro, C.C. Knowles, and Susan Machado from Corona del Mar, and Betsy Flint from Laguna Hills.
Future Impact and Community Engagement
The event plays a crucial role in funding KidWorks programs that empower students through education. With ongoing support from the community, KidWorks aims to expand its outreach and provide even more resources to first-generation college students.
