Misunderstanding Leads to Violence

Miles, who is also serving time for murder, said he thought Peterson was invading his personal space. According to a report by Megan Cassidy of the San Francisco Chronicle, another inmate shouted, “Hey, that’s the baby killer!” before the altercation began. Miles then punched Peterson multiple times.

“It just triggered a primal urge in me. That’s when I just took fight on him, and I just beat the living f— out of him.” – (Charles Miles)

Religious Justification for the Attack

Miles claimed that his attack on Peterson was part of a divine plan. He told Cassidy that the fight occurred in the same spot where he had prayed the day before.

“God made this happen. It was God’s plan for sure.” – (Charles Miles)

Miles also shared that he had prayed for God to use him as a “vessel of [His] will” just one day before the incident. Both Peterson and Miles suffered minor injuries from the altercation.

“In his prayers the day before the attack, Miles said he had asked God to “let your will be done,” and to “use me as a vessel of your will.” Miles said he believes the location of his confrontation with Peterson was a signal from God.” – (Cassidy)

Background on Peterson and Miles
