New Pickleball Court At Francis Lewis Park: In a significant boost for pickleball enthusiasts in Northern Queens, a newly minted pickleball court has made its debut at Francis Lewis Park in Whitestone. This development, celebrated on Monday by the Department of Parks and Recreation and Councilmember Vickie Paladino (R-Whitestone), marks a crucial addition to the area’s recreational landscape.

The $13,500 project, which repurposed one of the park’s former basketball courts, was initially completed last month. However, it officially opened this week following the application of a final sports coating.

Councilmember Vickie Paladino expressed pride in delivering a new pickleball court to the residents of Whitestone. She noted that with the addition of the sports coating, the court is now ready for use. Paladino looks forward to seeing the court bustling with activity every weekend and anticipates continuing similar initiatives in other parks across District 19.

Queens Parks Commissioner Jackie Langsam echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of this new facility. “Francis Lewis Park serves as a vital greenspace and outdoor activity hub for residents in Whitestone, and the addition of a new pickleball court adds even more important amenities to the park,” Langsam said. “As pickleball continues to grow in popularity, we want to ensure that there are dedicated spaces for this exciting and easy-to-learn sport.
