Transforming a Former Big Box Store
The new indoor pickleball club, operating under the Dill Dinkers brand, will occupy a substantial 20,785 square feet of the 70,000-square-foot space previously occupied by Sam’s Club. This transition is part of a larger development project spearheaded by local realtor and developer J.R. Richardson. The expansive new venue will feature eight indoor pickleball courts, complete with fences, ensuring that players can enjoy the sport in a controlled environment, regardless of weather conditions.
In addition to the courts, the facility will include an event space designed to host various pickleball-related activities and tournaments. A state-of-the-art ball machine will be available to help players hone their skills, and a pro shop will offer equipment and apparel for purchase. The club will also implement a digital reservation system, streamlining the process for members and visitors to book court time. Beyond casual play, the facility will offer a range of services, including clinics, private and semi-private lessons, open play sessions, round robins, leagues, and the option to rent space for private events.
Expert Management Under Local Leadership
The facility will be managed by Graeme Joffe, a distinguished pickleball professional from South Africa. Joffe brings over seven years of experience teaching both pickleball and tennis on the island, making him a valuable asset in ensuring that the new venue meets the high standards expected by the local pickleball community. His deep knowledge of the sport and local context will help in delivering top-notch instruction and creating a welcoming environment for players of all skill levels.
A Broader Vision for Coastal South Carolina
Hilton Head Dill Dinkers is not an isolated project but part of a broader expansion strategy by Pickleball Brothers. This business initiative, led by mortgage lenders Scott Johnson and Max Johnson, along with Zach Larichiuta and Wayne Johnson—a South Carolina-based engineer and physician—aims to establish a network of Dill Dinkers locations across Coastal South Carolina. The initiative reflects the increasing popularity of pickleball in the region and the growing demand for dedicated pickleball facilities.
