Tuscaloosa to Build Eight Pickleball Courts: The Tuscaloosa City Council Projects Committee has approved a $1.37 million contract with Price Construction Company to build eight new pickleball courts near Northridge High School. The project, the city’s largest pickleball investment, is expected to be completed by mid-November. It includes a parking lot and a sidewalk extension.
New Courts to Boost Community Recreation
The new courts will be located near Buddy Powell Pavilion, providing a dedicated space for the growing sport. The city aims to complete construction within 210 days after issuing a notice to proceed, which is expected in the next 20 to 30 days.
Officials Highlight Benefits of the Project
Tim Sullivan, Director of Construction & Facilities Projects, stated,
“The construction timeline is 210 days as mentioned, that’ll be 210 days from the point we give the notice to proceed, which could be anywhere from 20 to 30 days from now, so we would anticipate somewhere around mid-November for those courts to be complete.” – (Tim Sullivan)
He hopes the project will encourage residents to be more active and fill a gap in local recreational options.
