Dink’d, located on Fury’s Ferry Road, has gained attention for its chef-inspired menu, particularly its chicken tenders, which some say are worth the visit alone.
A Unique Pickleball Experience
Dink’d, which opened in July, is co-owned by Dan Bower and his brother-in-law, Troy Akers. The facility features nine indoor pickleball courts and a restaurant serving high-quality sports bar fare. More than 30,000 people have visited since its opening, with many stopping to try the now-popular chicken tenders.
Bower, a former chef and restaurant manager, has worked in places like Honolulu before moving to Augusta with his wife to be closer to family. He later managed local restaurants before launching Dink’d with Akers, an emergency room doctor.
Food That Keeps People Coming Back
The restaurant, located in the back of the venue, offers a full menu of pizzas, smash burgers, wraps, salads, smoothies, and appetizers. Bower explained the focus on quality, saying, “We went for quality.” His secret-recipe chicken tenders have been described by staff as “life-altering.”
Guests can access the restaurant without playing pickleball, walking past the courts to reach the dining area. Seating is available upstairs overlooking the courts and along the walkway. The venue also serves cocktails, beer, wine, and other beverages.
Pickleball’s Growth and Future
The name Dink’d comes from a pickleball shot aimed at an opponent, Bower explained. He expects the sport to continue growing, noting that Olympic officials considered adding it to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics but ultimately decided against it. “I expect it to eventually become an Olympic sport,” Bower said.
Pickleball differs from tennis because it has a smaller court, allowing more players to participate with less risk of injury. The sport provides a strong workout while being accessible to different skill levels. Dink’d offers memberships and lessons with a professional pickleball instructor, though membership is not required to play.
