Redstone’s Linton Park Debuts with Pickleball: Pickleball and basketball players now have a new outdoor space at Redstone with the opening of Linton Park. Located at Patton and Gray roads, the park features two pickleball courts, a basketball court with two goals, and bleachers for spectators. The facility is open for casual play and organized events.
A New Space for Sports and Events
Linton Park is designed to accommodate various recreational and team-building activities. The courts are available for players, and equipment such as outdoor basketballs and pickleball gear can be signed out at Pagano Gym, according to Lori Ciranni, director of sports, fitness, and aquatics. Ciranni highlighted the park’s amenities, including indoor bathrooms, a pavilion with overhead fans, and picnic tables.

“There is also a large concrete pad to place a grill, chairs, outdoor games or whatever you need for your event. There are six picnic tables provided under the pavilion.” – (Lori Ciranni)
The pavilion is open for general use but can also be rented for special events, offering a convenient gathering space for organizations and teams looking to host outdoor activities.
Players Welcome the New Courts
Mike Harris, a logistics management specialist at the Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM), expressed enthusiasm about playing on the new courts. Harris, who will compete in the National Senior Games in table tennis and pickleball this summer in Des Moines, Iowa, said,
“I play a lot of pickleball and I prefer to play outdoors.” – (Mike Harris)
He also hopes his AMCOM team will take advantage of the facilities for team-building events. Beyond pickleball and basketball, Linton Park includes two multipurpose fields for sports such as kickball and softball. Bleachers and dugouts are provided for these areas as well, making the park a versatile recreational space.
A Project to Improve Community Spaces
Linton Park is part of a broader initiative at Redstone aimed at enhancing outdoor facilities. The park, along with the Outdoor Learning Center and Path to Nature, which opened in October, was developed under the Resilient Energy Funding for Readiness and Modernization (REFoRM) program.
Under REFoRM, the Army rewards installations for reducing energy consumption by sharing cost savings, which helps fund projects like Linton Park. The park is named in honor of Capt. Paul M. Linton, an Ordnance Corps officer who lost his life in Korea on Dec. 14, 1953.
