Pickleball Court Scheduling in Tyrone Faces Delays: A proposed change to the pickleball court schedule in Tyrone was delayed during the March meeting of the Borough Council. Since court usage was limited during the winter, council members decided to revisit the discussion in June after reviewing any complaints or issues that may arise.
Council Seeks Input Before Making Changes
Council member Sarah Dane Hunter was appointed as the pickleball liaison between club members and the Borough Council. She noted that no complaints had been reported over the winter. Club hours and information remain posted at the Reservoir Drive courts.
Pickleball Club President Donna Reese asked how the public could access nets when club members are not present. She cited a lockbox system used in Altoona. Council Vice President David Snyder questioned why public nets could not stay up at all times, but Reese pointed out that roller hockey also uses the court.
Possible Court Adjustments Considered
Council member Pastor Ken Patterson suggested painting pickleball lines on the basketball court at Park Avenue, but council member Tammy Wills noted that the court is frequently used by children.
A bulletin board at the roller hockey and pickleball court lists the club’s current schedule. In March, playtimes are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7-10 a.m. and 12-5 p.m., as well as Tuesdays and Saturdays from 4-7 p.m. For April and May, scheduled times shift to Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., and Saturdays from 2-4 p.m.
Reese informed the council that last year, courts were available 80% of the time during scheduled club play. She later contacted Hunter, requesting that any pickleball-related complaints be shared with the club before the June meeting.
Club Requests Timely Complaint Resolution
In an email,
“At the March 10, 2025 meeting, the Council stated they will be recording and compiling complaints to be presented and reviewed at the June 2025 meeting to determine if any changes need to be made.(Donna Reese)
“We all discussed and agreed that complaints need to be handled expeditiously. Also, many issues can be resolved at the time of the complaint by explaining how the courts are scheduled and shared among hockey, the Pickleball Club, and the public.
“The Club respectfully requests that club-related complaints be promptly brought to our attention so we can investigate and resolve [them] in a timely manner. This will allow all concerned to report on resolutions in June, rather than just a list of issues.”
The Pickleball Club is also offering free beginner lessons to anyone in the community interested in learning the sport. Lessons are open to the public and require no club membership.
