Noise Concerns Prompt Change
According to city officials, the noise generated by pickleball has been a frequent issue for communities nationwide. The distinct “popping” sound created when a paddle strikes the ball is a primary concern, as it is high-pitched, repetitive, and disruptive even when within acceptable noise limits.
During the council meeting, Parks Maintenance Manager Aaron Wanden presented eight possible solutions, including building sound barriers, restricting gear, or requiring reservations. However, enforcing such measures was deemed impractical, and reducing hours was seen as the most cost-effective solution.
Residents and Players Share Perspectives
Residents living near the courts noted that they are in constant use throughout the day. While some residents emphasized the disruption, players argued that the noise complaints were exaggerated.
Players also pointed out that Creekside Park is the only location in Brentwood with dedicated pickleball courts that are free to use. Other parks, such as Pioneer Park, offer multiuse courts but are not designed specifically for pickleball.
