Babylon Village Greenlights Pickleball Court: The Babylon Village Board has approved a new sports lounge and pickleball court on Main Street, despite concerns from nearby residents about noise levels. The decision, announced at a recent board meeting, includes specific restrictions to address these concerns.
Resident Concerns and Village Response
Alan Oman, a resident of Prospect Street near the planned location, voiced concerns about potential noise, especially if the business stays open late.
“I understand they’re probably looking to bring business into the village, and if they limit the hours that they’re open, I am okay with it.” – (oman)
His wife, Kerri, shared similar concerns. Mayor Mary Adams assured residents that the establishment would be subject to covenants and restrictions set by the village.
“As with all restaurants, specific covenants and restrictions must be adhered to, and with this unique restaurant model, specific hours of operation have been established by the Village Board.” – (Mary Adams)
Restrictions and Operating Hours
To address noise concerns, the village has mandated the planting of trees and shrubs around the pickleball court. The court will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The restaurant will operate from noon to midnight on Sundays, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Music at the venue will be kept at low background levels, with no live performances, DJs, or outdoor music permitted. Additionally, music must not be audible outside the restaurant, even when staff are cleaning after closing hours.
Excitement for Downtown Growth
Adams expressed enthusiasm about the addition, calling it a positive step for the village.
“This will certainly be a first for our village. With pickleball being such an exciting and well-loved sport, the Village Board of Trustees and I look forward to continuing to bring new and dynamic businesses into our downtown, keeping it strong and vibrant.” – (adams)
The new business aims to attract residents and visitors while adhering to guidelines set by the village to maintain a balance between economic growth and community comfort.
