A New Hub for Pickleball Enthusiasts
Brighton is poised to become the new epicenter for local pickleball enthusiasts with the impending launch of a dedicated facility on Movie Drive at Brighton Towne Square. This state-of-the-art venue represents a significant investment from the four visionary co-founders: Kristen and Brennan Brown from Tyrone Township, alongside Ed and Lacey Miller from Grand Blanc.
Kristen Brown emphasized their excitement about establishing a local hub: “We found our sweet spot in Brighton.” Previously, the founders had to travel to the Wolverine Pickleball courts in Ann Arbor to indulge their passion. Now, with their new facility, they are bringing the sport closer to home, enhancing accessibility for their community.
Investment and Amenities
The Browns and Millers have spared no expense in creating an optimal playing environment. Their investment, amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars, includes a complete overhaul of the 28,000 square-foot building. The facility features specialized flooring, bright lighting, and an array of amenities designed to enhance the pickleball experience. Among these are a bar counter offering eight craft beers on tap, a selection of bottled beers, wines, and hard cider, plus comfortable seating and a TV for spectators.
“We are just about ready to put on the finishing touches,” Brown notes. The final step involves securing a certificate of occupancy from the city, a process she describes as progressing smoothly, thanks to the supportive local officials.
Looking Ahead: Leagues and Lessons
The founders’ vision extends beyond a recreational space. They plan to establish an in-house league and eventually engage in competitive play with teams from surrounding areas. Additionally, the facility will offer pickleball lessons from a team of five instructors, catering to both beginners and seasoned players alike.
In a testament to the facility’s anticipated popularity, the founders launched a membership pre-sale on Thursday, which saw around 30 memberships snapped up quickly. For $99, a one-month membership grants access to 2-hour play blocks on one of the nine courts. The official opening is projected for early August, marking a significant milestone for pickleball in Brighton.
