Gunston School’s Heron Pickleball Tournament Promises Thrills, Pancakes, and Waterfront Fun

The Gunston School will hold the Heron Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, April 12, starting at 9 a.m. at its waterfront campus in Centreville. The tournament will feature men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles teams, with matches played on Gunston’s tennis courts.

Tournament Format and Schedule

The event will utilize either a round-robin or double-elimination format, depending on the number of registered teams. Beginners will compete in the morning, while intermediate and advanced players will take the court in the afternoon. A detailed schedule will be provided upon registration.

Event Highlights

Check-in for participants opens at 8:30 a.m. Longtime faculty member Ben Dize will serve his signature chocolate chip pancakes to players. The cost to enter is $40 per player, with discounted rates of $35 for alumni and $25 for current students, faculty, and staff. Participants without a partner will be matched with someone of a similar skill level.

Purpose of the Event

Proceeds from the tournament will support Gunston’s 21 interscholastic athletic teams and three recreational leagues. Registration for the event closes on Monday, April 7. Sponsorships are available, ranging from $150 to $2,500.
