A team of four athletes, known as The Pickle Breakers, is preparing to break the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon pickleball rally. Their goal is to reclaim the title for the U.S. and raise awareness for grief and mental health support.
The current record of 34 hours and 5 minutes was set in the UK. The Pickle Breakers plan to surpass this mark with a 36-hour mixed doubles format at Pickler Universe in Carrollton, Texas. The event will begin on April 12 at 6 a.m. CT.
A Mission Beyond the Game
Team leader Chong Kim (CK) emphasizes the deeper purpose behind this challenge.
“This is more than a physical challenge. It’s about healing, hope, and harnessing the power of pickleball to bring people together.” – (Chong Kim)
The record attempt is particularly significant for the team, as it follows a tragedy in their local pickleball community: the loss of a fellow player to suicide. This loss prompted a memorial at The Picklr McKinney and sparked the realization that pickleball serves as a vital lifeline for many.
Partnering for a Purpose
The Pickle Breakers are partnering with Taylor’s Gift Foundation, a non-profit that provides grief support for organ and tissue donor families. By aligning with Taylor’s Gift, the team hopes to support these families and promote conversations about grief and compassion.
