Pickleball players and animal lovers will come together on Saturday, May 31, for the second annual Pickleball 4 Paws event at Riverside. The event, running from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., will raise funds to support animals at The Animal Shelter Society. If it rains, the event will be moved to the Y.
A Fun Event for a Good Cause
Pickleball 4 Paws welcomes experienced players and newcomers for a day of fun and friendly competition. All proceeds from the event will go directly toward caring for shelter animals.
In addition to the tournament, the shelter is offering microchipping services for pets at a reduced price. For $12, pet owners can ensure their animals have a permanent form of identification, which helps reunite lost pets with their families.
The Importance of Microchipping
The discounted microchip service is inspired by Ms. Liyla, a cat who was adopted from Poland by a military family and later reunited with them thanks to her microchip.
“Ms. Liyla, who was a feline adopted out of Poland by a military family, was reunited with them because of a microchip,” said April Gibson, the Executive Director of The Animal Shelter Society. “In honor of her and her family, we are offering $12 microchips, where they’re normally $25.”
The shelter currently has over 100 animals waiting for homes, and events like Pickleball 4 Paws help provide the resources needed to care for them.
Looking Ahead
The pickleball event not only raises funds but also increases awareness about pet adoption and the importance of microchipping. Attendees will have a chance to meet some of the adoptable pets and learn how they can support the shelter. With community involvement, the shelter hopes to continue helping animals find loving homes.
