Lantana’s Pickleball Courts: The Ferguson Courts at Lantana have become a popular pickleball spot since opening in November 2024. Located near E.P. Rayzor Elementary School, the complex features ten courts and sees daily use by players, students, and local residents.
A Welcoming Community Space
The pickleball courts, open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, are located at Rayzor Road and FM 407. The complex includes a restroom facility and three courts available for reservations through an online system. Reservations cost $10 per hour.
“The community has been embracing it and it’s been a positive experience for Lantana and Denton County residents,” said Lantana Fresh Water Supply District #7 board member Todd Messerle.
Pickleball’s growth has helped make the complex a success. According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, nearly 20 million people played in 2024, a 45.8% jump from the year before.
Involving Local Youth
Students from nearby E.P. Rayzor Elementary have used the courts for physical education classes on Fridays. Homeschool students have also used them to meet their P.E. requirements.
“We’ve had a huge uptick in reservations lately with the nicer weather. And we haven’t had any issues with those reservations.” – (Messerle)
Lantana Cares, a non-profit group, donated 40 paddles and balls to help the students learn the game.
Tournaments and Growth
The Ferguson Courts have already hosted one major tournament, with another held April 4–6. All funds from reservations and events go toward court maintenance.
“The introduction and rollout of the complex has gone very smooth, so far,” Messerle said. Those interested in learning the game can contact registered instructor Mary Freet.
Looking Ahead
The success of the courts reflects the growing popularity of pickleball in Denton County. With strong community support and regular activity, the complex is expected to remain a key recreational feature for the area.
