Pickleball Court in Harmon Park: A new pickleball court is coming to Harmon Park in Stamford next month, thanks to Stamford High School student Allie Caddell. As part of the Ford Leadership Scholars Program, Caddell is leading the court’s construction with strong support from the city and local businesses.
Student-Led Project Gains City Support
Caddell was selected for the Ford Leadership Scholars Program, which picks students who show strong leadership to create meaningful community projects. She chose to build a pickleball court for Stamford residents to enjoy.
“When I developed this project the first person I went to was our local mayor, he 100% backed me and supported me. Then I also went to the city manager he was 100% on board. I got to present to city council and they let me take free reign of this project.” – (Caddell)
The project has been in progress for three weeks. Once completed, it will give residents of all ages a place to play and gather.
Local Businesses Lend a Hand
Businesses around Stamford have helped bring the project to life. One company in town provided the concrete used for the court.
“One of the coolest things about my project, in my opinion, is I actually got to utilize an in-town company for the concrete. That is Kingdom Concrete Builders and his son is actually a freshman here at SHS who I have gotten to be really close with. So that was a direct pour back into our community economically and then all of the businesses have been pouring into that.” – (Caddell)
Most of the funding has come through community fundraisers and local business donations.
Plans for Use and Upkeep
The court will be easy to maintain after it’s built.
“Mostly a pickleball court is pretty pain-free once it’s in and once it’s surfaced you don’t have to do much it has to be resurfaced every 10 years I believe.” – (Caddell)
To celebrate the completion of the project, a community tournament will be held. Seating is also being added.
“We’re building 8 different benches 4 of them will be going with the pickleball court here at Harmon Park, this way people can sit and enjoy the game going on in the court.” – (Caddell)
Project Leaves Lasting Impact
The court is more than just a place to play—it reflects youth leadership and community teamwork. It may inspire more students and residents to get involved in improving local spaces. With its low maintenance and wide appeal, the new court will likely become a favorite gathering spot in Stamford.
