Warringah Bowling Club Pickleball Courts: Warringah Bowling Club members have approved a plan to add pickleball courts, with 132 votes in favor out of 160. The decision, made Monday night during a general meeting attended by about 200 people, is aimed at securing the future of the 120-year-old club in Mosman.
A Plan to Keep the Club Alive
The six new pickleball courts will be built on the top green facing Bradleys Head Road. The courts are part of a proposed deal with Mosman Pickleball (MPB), which would pay $90,000 annually over 12 years. The courts would operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. if the plan is approved. Club Manager Liarne Peek said the vote was a turning point for the club.

“We now have an opportunity to make this place a true community hub, where all residents are made to feel welcome.” – (Ms Peek)
Community Support Growing
The club had struggled recently, selling only 450 beers and 16 coffees in one week. But since news broke about the financial troubles, local support has grown. People have visited for meals, drinks, and games of bowls.
“We have 52 new members, and many more looking to sign up in time for the Easter long weekend.” – (Ms Peek)
Next Steps for Pickleball Deal
The agreement with MPB still needs to be formalized before submitting a Development Application (DA) to the Council. As part of the deal, MPB would resurface the top green with synthetic grass. The bottom green will stay the same for lawn bowls. Tom Hassan from MPB said the sport is growing fast in the area.
“The demand is huge, and we have a real need for a permanent home in Mosman. Warringah Bowls Club is the perfect location, and the clubhouse will become a community hub where people of all ages are welcome. The feedback [following Monday’s meeting] has been phenomenal, with players excited about the prospect of having designated courts, proper nets, and a wonderful environment to play in.” – (Mr. Hassan)
Mr. Hassan said MPB hopes to submit the DA by the end of the month and begin pickleball play by December.
What It Means for the Club and Community
The plan could provide much-needed income for the historic club. If approved, it would also offer local pickleball players a permanent venue. The club hopes to become a stronger community space, welcoming bowlers and pickleball players of all ages.
