New Facility Brings More Courts to Snohomish County
This will be the eighth Pickleball Kingdom location in Washington and the first in Snohomish County. The company has already opened sites in Vancouver, Yakima, Tacoma, Spokane, Seattle, Bellevue, and Poulsbo.
Pablo Granados, General Manager and Pickleball Director for the Pacific Northwest, said the company hopes to expand with six to eight more locations in the region, including one in Marysville.
The Lynnwood facility will offer four open plays daily, allowing visitors to try the courts for free. However, reservations will be required.
Pickleball Kingdom will also host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its grand opening. Lynnwood Mayor Christine Frizzell and Tammy Dunn, Executive Director of the Snohomish County Sports Commission, are expected to attend.
Granados’ Journey to Pickleball
Granados, a former soccer player from Costa Rica, first came across pickleball while trying to lose weight after an injury. He had never heard of the sport before.
“I hate working out. I’m not a workout kind of guy. I did when I had to because it was my job but outside of it I was never someone who would work out.” – (Granados)
At the YMCA, he noticed people playing pickleball and asked to join.
“That was probably one of the best days of my life because I was so welcome. They were so welcoming, and it was so fun, that I just kept going. The best part of it, at the end of the day, was I lost like 100 pounds.” – (Granados)
He has now been active in the Marysville Pickleball Club for eight years. The club has grown from 100 members in 2017 to about 800. He has organized events, tournaments, and helped promote the sport in the region.
Granados was offered the Lynnwood location after he met with Pickleball Kingdom leadership. “It turned out [they] meshed really well,” Granados said. He left his high school teaching job to run the facility full-time.
Membership and Features
Pickleball Kingdom will offer memberships similar to a gym. New members will pay a $100 start-up fee, with plans beginning at $129 per month. Discounts are available for families, teams, and first responders.
Memberships include court reservations, locker room access, VIP events, and more. One of the unique features of the Lynnwood site is a “dink wall,” a digital screen for swing practice.
Ahead of the opening, Pickleball Kingdom will invite local clubs for a free session on April 15. During the opening weekend, the public can visit the center at no cost. Sessions will be capped at 400 people in three-hour blocks.
Pickleball Kingdom began in Chandler, Arizona, in 2022. It started franchising in 2023 and now has over 100 locations nationwide.
A Growing Sport with More Local Options
In addition to the Lynnwood location, Snohomish County is seeing more courts open in public spaces. Players can use free tools like Pickleheads.com to find nearby courts and connect with others in the area.
