Greenville’s Pop-Up Pickleball Paradise: A new free pickleball court called “Pickle Down Dickinson” is opening at an old Dickinson Avenue location in Greenville. The courts, both indoor and outdoor, are open to the public for a limited time before the space is turned into apartments next year.
Recreation Returns to Dickinson Avenue
Taft Family Ventures is leading the project. The courts are sponsored by the Downtown Greenville Partnership, ENC Alliance, and Greenville Parks and Recreation. The temporary setup aims to give residents a fun and healthy way to enjoy downtown.
“In the meantime, we wanted to do something with this great building, this great real estate that we had here, and the idea became pickleball,” said Thomas Taft, Principal at Taft Family Ventures.
A Community-Focused Idea
Located near restaurants and breweries, the courts are meant to add to the downtown experience. Visitors can enjoy a game and then grab food or drinks nearby.
“So, it’s a great opportunity for folks to get outside, get some exercise, experience what Dickinson Avenue has to offer, come grab a beer pitt street or a pizza at Luna. It’s really, really a great spot and it’s free. Best apart of all of this you know we’re doing this as really a give back to the community that has given us so much.” – (Taft)
What Happens Next
The pickleball courts will only be available for a short time. The property will be developed into apartments starting sometime next year. Until then, it’s a chance for the community to enjoy free recreation in the heart of downtown.
