New Pickleball Courts In Waterfront Park: San Diego’s Waterfront Park is gearing up for a major enhancement with the grand opening of two new pickleball courts on Monday, July 22. This addition, part of a larger 1.5-acre active recreation zone, follows the recent Bayfest at the park and promises to be a game-changer for local pickleball enthusiasts.
The new pickleball courts, set in the northeast corner of the park, feature state-of-the-art amenities designed to elevate the player experience. The facility will include:
- Two Dedicated Pickleball Courts: One for competitive play and another for casual, open games.
- Lighting: Ensuring the courts are usable from dawn until dusk.
- Shaded Seating: Providing comfort for players and spectators alike.
Opening Ceremony and Interactive Workshop
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m., with County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation officials and Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Terra Lawson-Remer in attendance. Following the official opening, the public is invited to a free interactive pickleball workshop, where players of all skill levels can try out the new courts. All necessary equipment will be provided for this hands-on experience.
Facility Access and Use
The pickleball and new basketball courts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with dedicated areas for both challenge and open play. This setup is designed to accommodate a wide range of playing styles and preferences.
