Dink for Pink Fundraiser Success: More than $3,000 was donated to support breast cancer patients at UW Health in Rockford, following the Victory Pickleball “Dink for Pink” fundraiser held earlier this year. A check was presented to the SwedishAmerican Health Foundation on Thursday, April 17, to aid cancer care services.
Victory Pickleball Hosts Successful Fundraiser
The “Dink for Pink” event took place on March 1, attracting over 300 participants. Attendees enjoyed pickleball games, bingo, and a raffle. The event raised $3,351 to help women battling breast cancer.
Victory Pickleball’s general manager, Maggie Kasicki, said she was inspired to act after losing her best friend to breast cancer.
“To see what this disease does to a family, once you experience it, it is impossible to let it go.” – (Kasicki)
Donation Supports Local Breast Cancer Patients
Dr. Lacey Stelle, a breast cancer surgeon at UW Health, explained how the donation will help women undergoing treatment.
“Anything that we can do to help make the surgical recovery any smoother, and then also, we try to use some funds to help with women during chemotherapy as well.” – (Lacey Stelle)
Dr. Stelle emphasized the importance of regular checkups and early detection.
“When we think about how common breast cancer is, it’s actually 1 in 8 women who will get breast cancer. So, if you’re a woman, you’ve got a 12% chance you’re going to get breast cancer.” – (Lacey Stelle)
She also advised women to start yearly mammograms at age 40 and suggested younger women speak with their doctors about risk factors.
Impact of Local Fundraising Efforts
All donations made to the SwedishAmerican Health Foundation stay in the Rockford area, directly benefiting local patients. Events like “Dink for Pink” help provide important support services to women as they fight breast cancer. Continued community support could lead to even more fundraising events, making a lasting impact on cancer care in Rockford.
