The Door County Pickleball Club, Door County YMCA, and USA Pickleball held two pickleball tournaments in April to celebrate National Pickleball Month. The events took place at the Sturgeon Bay YMCA on April 10 and the Jackie and Steve Kane Program Center in Fish Creek on April 16.
Both tournaments welcomed 24 players, with others gathering to watch and cheer. USA Pickleball sponsored the events with prizes and giveaways. They also donated three new indoor pickleball nets to the Door County YMCA, helping improve local facilities.
Tournament Winners Announced
At the Sturgeon Bay YMCA, Guy Fortin won first place, followed by Rob Pollman in second and Jon Walker in third. Six days later, at Fish Creek, Gerry Kadow claimed first place, with DeAnn Walkner second and Aaron Phillips third.
Strong Community and Club Growth
Door County Pickleball Club President Jay Renstrom, also a USA Pickleball district ambassador, said both events filled quickly.
“Although April is typically a transition month for the club as players begin to venture outdoors, weather permitting, we were extremely thankful to the Door County YMCA for providing such great facilities, not only for these tournaments, but throughout the entire indoor season,” he said.
Renstrom shared that the club now has about 550 members and grows 20-30% each year.
