New Pickleball and Basketball Courts Transform Johnstown High School: What It Means for Students and the Community?

Johnstown High School Sports Upgrades: Construction has begun at Johnstown High School to create new outdoor spaces featuring three pickleball courts and two refurbished basketball courts. The Greater Johnstown School District announced the project on Tuesday, with plans to complete the work by the start of the upcoming school year.

New Courts for Students and Community

The new area will serve students from Warren Street Elementary School and Johnstown High School. It will be used during physical education classes and for other school activities. When school is not in session, the public will be able to enjoy the new courts.

Construction will continue throughout the summer. The school district urges visitors to watch for posted signs and follow changes in traffic patterns while visiting the campus.

“We are very excited to begin this work that will provide a safe, valuable, updated resource for our instructional programs and our community. As we continue work through the summer, please be mindful of the posted signs, blocked areas and altered traffic patterns when visiting the school, to ensure that we keep our students, staff and community safe.” – (Superintendent William Crankshaw)

Additional Improvements Underway

Along with the new courts, the project will include a formalized bus loop for student drop-off and pick-up. This new loop will be located in the parking lot next to the courts on Warren Street.

Sidewalks will also be installed to connect the parking area to the elementary school. Improved drainage systems around the parking areas are planned to help manage water flow and protect the new construction.

Due to construction, parking will be limited in some areas during the summer. The school district will direct vehicles to other areas of the campus as needed.

Importance of the Project

The new pickleball courts and improvements aim to enhance the learning environment and give students better spaces for outdoor activities. By opening the courts to the public after school hours, the district also strengthens its ties with the community.

This project supports the Greater Johnstown School District’s goal of providing updated, safe, and accessible facilities for students and residents. As work continues, the district hopes the new spaces will become a valuable part of daily school life and the broader Johnstown community.
