A New Hub for Pickleball Enthusiasts
The grand opening ceremony, which included a ribbon-cutting and free play event, was attended by local officials, including Lynnwood Mayor Christine Frizzell and Snohomish County Sports Commission Executive Director Tammy Dunn. The new facility marks the eighth Pickleball Kingdom location in Washington State and is part of a larger expansion plan by owners John and Mara Hylton. The duo has already purchased 21 licenses across the Pacific Northwest, with plans for additional locations in the region, including North Snohomish County.
“We’re really happy to bring this here, we hope to keep adding value to you guys, we appreciate feedback. We are going to keep making this better through our programming,”( John Hylton).
Facility Features
The facility operates like a traditional fitness center, with membership options starting at $129 per month. Memberships offer access to court reservations, VIP tournament invitations, discounts on ball rentals, and access to showers and locker rooms. A $100 initiation fee applies to all new memberships, with additional discounts for families, teams, and first responders.
Pickleball Kingdom also offers four open play sessions each day, where anyone can drop in free of charge, though reservations are required. The 12 courts are equipped with iPads and monitors to track players’ statistics, which can be reviewed and shared through the Pickleball Kingdom app. Other features of the facility include a dink wall for practice, a pro shop, a community room where beer and wine are served on weekends, and a second-floor terrace.
Community Engagement
At the grand opening, attendees were able to watch Lynnwood Mayor Christine Frizzell make the first serve on one of the courts, followed by a replay of the serve on the court’s monitor, showcasing the facility’s advanced technology.
“I love this city, and I love Pickleball. I am so happy to have another venue that energizes our community,” (Mayor Frizzell).
Lynnwood City Council President Nick Coelho also attended the event, sharing his excitement and revealing that he had biked to the ceremony.
Pickleball’s Growing Popularity
Pickleball Kingdom’s Lynnwood location is part of a larger trend of growing pickleball facilities in the Pacific Northwest. The rise in popularity of the sport comes after Washington State designated pickleball as its official state sport in 2022. The opening of Pickleball Kingdom gives local players a new, state-of-the-art venue to enjoy the sport year-round.
