Pickle Zone Holland Venue: Pickle Zone, a new pickleball venue in Holland, Toledo, Ohio, is offering year-round, air-conditioned and heated courts for players of all ages and skill levels. The center is open every day, providing a space for lessons, open play, and socializing.
A Game for All Ages
Pickleball is gaining popularity as both a fun activity and a great workout. Jim Johnson, one of the co-owners of Pickle Zone, explains that the game is not only addictive but also great for your mind and body. “It’s a quick cardio workout,” Johnson says, adding that it’s also a “methodical chess game.”
For many, pickleball is also a way to meet new people. “It’s a social game,” Johnson notes. “People live to just get out here in a foursome, mix it up and play.”
State-of-the-Art Courts
Pickle Zone offers two professional-grade, year-round courts, which are air-conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter. Co-owner Ken Martin emphasized their commitment to quality: “We wanted something that was professional and competition level, so that’s what you see here.”
The venue’s appeal stretches across all age groups. Martin, who is 71, has a deep passion for the sport, which he shares with his family. “We are all in on this game,” he says, mentioning that his wife Rita started the family’s pickleball journey. “The only limiting factor for me is my age. I can’t take it, otherwise I’d play every day for three to four hours.”
Lessons, Tournaments, and Open Play
Pickle Zone plans to offer a variety of playing options, including group and private lessons, clinics, and pickleball tournaments. The center will also host open play hours, so anyone can come in and play without needing a full team. “Our goal here is to have both group and private lessons, clinics, some tournaments, open play during certain hours so you can stop by and you don’t need four people to play,” Martin says.
There is no membership required to play at Pickle Zone; players can simply reserve a court time. The venue is open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
What’s Next for Pickle Zone
Pickle Zone’s focus on accessibility and family-friendly fun makes it an exciting addition to Holland’s recreational scene. With its professional-grade courts and welcoming environment, the center is poised to become a popular spot for pickleball enthusiasts of all ages.
