Revere Park Pickleball Court Renovation: Revere Park’s newly renovated tennis and pickleball courts are now open after a $7.5 million renovation. The improvements come as part of a long-term effort to upgrade the park’s facilities, providing better recreational opportunities for the community.
Located at 2509 W. Irving Park Road, Revere Park, which has been a public space since 1921, underwent several years of construction to revamp its aging infrastructure. The renovation work included resurfacing four tennis courts and adding pickleball striping on one of them, making the courts more versatile for various sports enthusiasts.
Field House Renovations
The field house, built in 1931 by architect Clarence Hatzfeld, also saw extensive upgrades. These included repairs to the concrete, masonry, and roof, as well as improvements to make the building more accessible. New heating and ventilation systems, along with interior finish updates, were also part of the project. Additionally, the gymnasium floor was replaced to ensure a safe and functional space for the community.
Funding and Efforts for Improvement
The renovation project started in 2016, when former 47th Ward Alderman Ameya Pawar allocated $6 million in tax-increment financing (TIF) funds for the upgrades. Alderman Matt Martin later approved an additional $1.5 million in TIF funding in 2020 to further expand the project, including essential improvements to the Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club building. A portion of the funding, $400,000, was dedicated to enhancing the park’s tennis courts, which included new drainage systems, ADA-accessible entrances, and new gates and fencing.
Statements on the Renovation
Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, Park District superintendent and CEO, highlighted the importance of the upgrades: “As we continue to expand opportunities for recreation across the city, we are also building the infrastructure necessary to support the health and wellness priorities identified in our strategic plan.”
The court renovations are part of the citywide Pickleball Mania program, which aims to add more than 200 pickleball courts to the Park District by the end of 2025. Ramirez-Rosa emphasized that active recreation spaces like these courts are vital for promoting healthy living among Chicago residents.
Revere Park Access
Revere Park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the field house is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, with shorter hours on Saturdays. The newly upgraded courts are expected to attract more players and bring the community together for both casual games and organized sports.
