Topeka Scores Big as Ichabod’s Grille Unveils First-Ever Regulation Pickleball Courts

Ichabod’s Grille Pickleball Courts Opening: Ichabod’s Grille will open three new pickleball courts on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Located behind the bar and grill in South Topeka, the courts were first announced in October 2024. The new pickleball acility will cater to both casual players and those seeking more competitive events.

A New Space for Pickleball in Topeka

The opening of the pickleball courts fills a gap in Topeka’s sports scene. Currently, the city lacks dedicated regulation outdoor courts for pickleball, which players often travel to neighboring cities like Kansas City to access.

We wanted to really be able to do that for the city,” said Regional Manager Brady Barnes. “There’s nothing in Topeka… Real regulation outdoor courts that people can get on and do some sanctioned events.”

A Soft Opening and Future Plans

The soft opening for the courts will take place at 5 p.m. on May 1. Following the opening, managers will gather feedback from players before fully opening the courts. The plan is to offer reservations through Ichabod’s Grille’s website starting the following week.

General Manager Krysta Horning expressed excitement about providing a more structured environment for players. “Right now they have kind of a recreational park that’s for it all but it’s kinda first come first serve,” she explained. “They know that they have time here whether it be a league or a tournament, it’s going to be all spaced off for them and have time for them to come out and play.”

Significance for the Community

The new pickleball courts will offer a dedicated space for competitive and recreational players alike. It aims to bring more structure to the local pickleball scene, providing opportunities for leagues and tournaments in a way that Topeka has lacked until now. The facility is expected to attract both local players and visitors, contributing to the city’s sports offerings.
