Amarillo Pickleball Tournament: A charity pickleball tournament will be held on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Amarillo National Tennis Center. The event will raise funds for the 2025 Amarillo Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association West Texas Chapter and the Downtown Amarillo Lions Club, the event is open to all players ages 10 and up.
The event aims to support Alzheimer’s care, research, and awareness. General play costs $35, and a VIP Players Reception is available for $40 at 8:45 a.m. The public is invited to stop by, enjoy the games, and support the cause.
Raising Awareness Through Pickleball
This family-friendly tournament invites the community to get involved in a fun and meaningful way. Organizers say the event is about more than just sport.
“Most all families have to deal with it in one form or fashion,” said Stu Downing, president of the Downtown Amarillo Lions Club. “Anything we can do to lessen the effects of the terrible disease is welcomed.”
The tournament will take place at the Amarillo National Tennis Center, located at 5000 Bell Street.
Supporting Alzheimer’s Research and Care
Proceeds from the event will support the Amarillo Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Downtown Amarillo Lions Club. The annual walk is scheduled for Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. A news release from the Alzheimer’s Association reports that in Texas alone, about 450,000 people live with Alzheimer’s disease, with over 1 million caregivers across the state.
Why This Event Matters
The pickleball tournament is more than just a game. It brings attention to a disease that affects many families and helps fund ongoing efforts in support and research. With strong community support, organizers hope this event boosts awareness and inspires future involvement.
