Katy City Park Set for Major Makeover: Pickleball Courts and Turf Fields Coming in 2026

Katy City Park’s Pickleball Courts: The Katy City Council has approved a major renovation plan for Katy City Park, including artificial turf fields and pickleball courts. The renovation project, which will start in 2026, aims to improve community facilities at 5850 Franz Road.

Plans for the Renovation

The renovation includes several key upgrades to the park. These include new drainage systems, sports fields, and recreational courts. The project will also feature lighting for all recreational areas.

Kevin Browne, the Director of Parks and Recreation, said the design for the park has already been completed, and construction is expected to begin soon. He added, “We’ll probably be looking at completion sometime in the summer of 2026.”

Details of the Park’s New Features

The park will feature a synthetic turf field, which can be used for football and soccer practice. There will also be four pickleball courts. The project will include stormwater drainage systems and other site amenities like fencing, netting, and seating.

Plans for the renovation were prepared by the design firm Kimley-Horn in January 2025. The design calls for an excavated pond and swales for stormwater management, with drainage that leads to the existing storm sewer on Franz Lane.

Exclusions from the Renovation

The approved plan does not cover improvements to parking, architectural structures, or offsite improvements like storm or utility services.

Impact on the Community

The renovation is expected to significantly enhance the park’s recreational offerings for Katy residents. The project will also address the park’s infrastructure needs, helping it better serve the growing community. Once completed, the park will provide improved spaces for a variety of sports and activities.
