Arley Day Festival Pickleball Tournament: The second annual pickleball tournament will return to the Arley Day Festival on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Hamner Memorial Park in Arley, Alabama. The event begins at 8:00 a.m. and features a mixed doubles round-robin format. Entry costs $25 per player, and all proceeds will go to the Arley Women’s Club, a nonprofit group that supports local community projects.
Supporting the Community Through Pickleball
The tournament is part of the annual Arley Day Festival and is organized by the Arley Women’s Club. The event helps raise money for programs that improve life in Arley and nearby areas. According to tournament organizer Jane Shirah,
“This is our second annual pickleball tournament held as part of the Arley Day Festival and all proceeds go directly back into the community in the form of grants.” – (Jane Shirah)
The Arley Women’s Club has two grant cycles each year. Local non-profits can apply for funding to help with school needs, fire departments, and library services. The money raised also supports park upgrades, scholarships, and reading programs.
Projects Funded by the Tournament
Funds from this year’s tournament will help expand a scholarship program for Meek High School seniors and support a new story time program at Meek Elementary School. The money will also go toward buying learning tools for schools and improving Hamner Park with new pickleball courts and longer walking trails.
The Arley Women’s Club will also use the funds to keep the Arley Day Festival, Parade, and Car Show going strong. They will continue to support a recycling program that has been running for eight years, and give aid to local EMS and volunteer fire departments.
“We have two giving cycles throughout the year when any local nonprofit organization can apply. These grants are typically given to support unmet needs in local schools, the library, volunteer fire departments and more. We also use the money to fund scholarships, park improvements and a literacy program in the elementary school.” – (Jane Shirah)
The Importance of Giving Back
This pickleball event not only brings people together for fun and friendly competition, but it also helps support important causes in the Arley area. From helping schools and students to improving public spaces and services, the money raised has a lasting impact. Community members and visitors can enjoy a day of play while helping others.
