Championship Pickleball Courts at Solon Community Park: Solon Community Park in Solon, Ohio, is undergoing major upgrades to become a vibrant space for residents of all ages. New features include championship pickleball courts, a Central Park area, better parking, and a future outdoor pool. The project is being built in phases, with parts already open to the public.
A Park for Everyone
The improvements are part of a long-term plan led by Solon Parks and Recreation Director Rich Parker. The goal is to turn the park into a “vibrant and inclusive central gathering space.”
“The overall vision for Solon Community Park, once these improvements are complete, is to create a vibrant and inclusive central gathering space that reflects the values and spirit of our community. This revitalized park will serve as a hub for connection, recreation and celebration, bringing together residents of all ages and backgrounds in a welcoming and well-designed environment.” – (Parker)
First Steps Already Finished
The first phase was completed recently with the opening of Sebastian’s Playground. The new play area was built in memory of four-year-old Sebastian Gray Botirius.
Despite cold weather, many families came out, along with community leaders and Sebastian’s family. This celebration marked the start of even more big changes at the park.
Pickleball and New Additions
Ten new pickleball courts, including two championship-level, ADA-compliant courts, are scheduled to open in July.
“The decision to include 10 new pickleball courts in Solon Community Park was made after careful consideration of community input, usage demand and available park space.” – (Parker)
“Among the 10 courts, the inclusion of championship-level courts is particularly exciting. They are fully ADA-compliant and designed not only to serve local players, but also to support the potential for hosting competitive tournaments and regional events.” – (Parker)
By summer 2026, a new Central Park area will be open. It will include walking paths, an open-air stage, and a classroom for Safety Town and other events.
“The new Central Park area at Solon Community Park is designed to be a dynamic and inclusive gathering space for residents of all ages.” – (Parker)
“The open-air stage will serve as a vibrant venue for concerts, performances, movie nights and community celebrations, while the adjacent classroom will offer flexible space for everything from recreation programs to workshops and club meetings.” – (Parker)
Rich Parker added that public rental of the classroom space may be considered in the future.
“While we don’t currently plan to offer the space for public rental, we understand the interest and will certainly consider that possibility in the future.” – (Parker)
Support for Events and Families
To make the park easier to use, the parking lot off SOM Center Road is being redesigned. The new layout will have better access, more space for food trucks, and other improvements. New restrooms and a concession stand are also being added.
“The addition of more restrooms — strategically placed near high-traffic areas like the Central Park, pickleball courts and event spaces — will significantly improve accessibility and reduce wait times.” – (Parker)
Looking to the Future
This full redesign began with a conversation about the ballfields, but it quickly turned into a bigger plan.
“That conversation became the catalyst for a much larger community-driven vision — one that reflects not just updates to athletic fields, but enhancements across the entire park to better serve everyone in Solon.” – (Parker)
One of the biggest changes ahead is a new outdoor pool complex expected to be ready within the next five years.
“Looking ahead, one of the most exciting future projects is the addition of a new outdoor pool complex, which is expected to be completed within the next five years.” – (Parker)
“These phased improvements are all part of a long-term vision to transform Solon Community Park into a vibrant, multi-use destination for everyone in the community.” – (Parker)
The project is ongoing, but Solon leaders say the finish line is in sight.
