PickleRage Opens Massive Indoor Pickleball Club in Portage—Is Michigan Ready for the Next Big Craze?

Indoor Pickleball Club in Portage: PickleRage, a leading indoor pickleball club brand, will open a new location in Portage, Michigan, by late 2025. The 46,426-square-foot club will be built at 531 Romence Road in Romence Plaza and will include over 10 courts, player lounges, and other modern amenities.

The new Portage club will be owned by a local franchisee who is both a pickleball fan and resident. The owner hopes to grow the sport in the community with a fun, welcoming space for players of all ages and skill levels.

“Southwest Michigan is ready for a dedicated pickleball facility, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to lead the charge,” said PickleRage.

“PickleRage brings the energy, quality, and community feel that the sport is all about. I’m proud to be part of the brand’s national growth and look forward to creating a welcoming space for people of all skill levels to play, socialize, and have fun.” – (PickleRage)

Building on Statewide Growth

The Portage expansion follows the success of PickleRage’s club in West Bloomfield, Michigan. That club quickly became popular, hosting social mixers, competitive leagues, and clinics. Its popularity shows how much the sport is growing in the region.

PickleRage also recently announced another location in Grand Rapids, continuing its push across Michigan.

“Portage is a fantastic market for PickleRage—not just because of the size of the site, but because of the energy and growth happening in the region,” said Chris Daiss, Vice President of Real Estate and Construction at PickleRage.

“This club will be a cornerstone for the pickleball community in Western Michigan, offering players a top-tier indoor experience that’s built to grow with demand.” – (Daiss)

Facility Features

The Portage facility will include at least 10 indoor pickleball courts, a player’s lounge, and a retail store. All courts will use CushionX, a pro-level court surface. Players will benefit from modern technology for booking and check-in, as well as programs like leagues, lessons, clinics, and social events.

The site is located in the Shoppes at Romence Village, a 168,000-square-foot shopping area. It’s close to Westnedge Avenue, making it easy to access for the more than 106,000 people who live within five miles.

A Growing Sport with Strong Demand

David Smith, Chief Operating Officer of PickleRage, said the company sees strong opportunity in Michigan.

“Michigan has quickly become a key growth market for PickleRage, and we’re thrilled to deepen our presence in the region. The enthusiasm for pickleball here is undeniable, and our expansion into Portage reinforces our commitment to meeting that demand with best-in-class indoor facilities and a vibrant community experience.” – (Smith)

PickleRage offers a franchise model that helps local business owners bring high-quality pickleball to their communities. The Portage location adds to that effort, aiming to give more players access to quality courts and events all year round.
