Petal High School Pickleball Complex: Petal High School officially opened its new tennis and pickleball complex with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The event took place at the school campus in Petal, Mississippi, and marked the completion of a $1.8 million project funded through a bond referendum passed in May 2023.
New Courts Now in Use
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by local city and county leaders. Petal High School’s tennis team already played its first season on the new courts this spring. The facility includes tennis and pickleball courts, making it a dual-purpose space for student-athletes and the community.
The complex was made possible through the Petal School District and its community partners. Alongside the courts, a new concession stand and bathrooms were also revealed. These will serve guests during sporting events and other school functions.
Support for Students and Community
Petal School District Superintendent Matt Dillon said the goal behind the project was to support students and staff.
“Our mission talks about (how) we’re here for our students in everything that we do,” said Matt Dillon. “Every decision we make, we want what’s best for our students and to make sure our staff have the resources so they can be very successful. We’re so very ‘Panther Proud’ of our student-athletes to have these great facilities.”
Matt Dillon also mentioned that the tennis and pickleball courts will be open to the public when not in use by the school. This move is expected to give the community more access to recreational space.
Looking Ahead
This new facility is a major investment in school sports and community use. It provides student-athletes at Petal High School with better practice and game areas. It also offers residents of Petal a new place to enjoy tennis and pickleball, two sports growing in popularity.
The project reflects how school improvements can benefit both students and the larger community. With the courts now open, the school and public can look forward to more activity and engagement on campus.
