LOV Pickleball Tournament Fundraiser: The second annual LOV Pickleball Tournament was held on Saturday to support the Light of the Village nonprofit. Originally scheduled at the Country Club of Mobile, the event moved to PickleRage due to weather conditions. The tournament featured mixed doubles, women’s doubles, and men’s doubles divisions, catering to beginner and advanced players.
Funds Raised for Summer Bible Camps
The funds raised from the entry fees will benefit Light of the Village, a non-profit based in Prichard. John Eades, a founder of Light of the Village, explained that the money will help support their free summer Bible camp, which runs from June through July. The camp serves children in Prichard and Toulminville.
“We’re really looking at this point is our summer Bible camp, which is going to start in June and we go through June and July, so it’s eight weeks of summer Bible camp both in Prichard and also in Toulminville. And so a lot of the funds that were raising today are going to go towards helping support that free summer camp to the kids that show up.” – (john Eades)
Positive Experience for Kids
Dolores Eades shared that the kids had a great time at the event.
“Oh, they’re having a great time. The kids are enjoying themselves as they were learning how to play and they’re finding it. It’s something that they really enjoy and they’re even talking about wanting to play some more so hopefully this will encourage them and give them that experience and the confidence to try something new.” – (Dolores Eades)
The hope is that this experience will inspire kids to try something new and gain confidence through sports.
Thanks to Sponsors and Future Plans
The Sunrise Rotary Club, which organized the event, thanked its sponsors for their support. They also expressed their desire to make the tournament an annual event.
