Lions Park Set for Dramatic Makeover: 12 Pickleball Courts Could Replace Community Center

Lions Park Pickleball Court Project: New Berlin city leaders are planning to tear down the Community Center at Lions Park and build 12 new pickleball courts in its place. The Common Council will review the proposal and consider hiring the design firm raSmith during its meeting on Tuesday evening.

City Plans Pickleball Courts

The Community Center, located at 14750 West Cleveland Avenue, is set to be demolished this fall. In its place, the city is looking to create a new area for pickleball with 12 courts and site improvements. The total cost of the project is expected to be $60,000.

The new features will include fencing, windscreens, shade structures, lighting, and landscaping. The idea is to make the courts welcoming and ready for public use.

Design and Approval Process

The New Berlin Plan Commission voted last Monday to recommend the approval of raSmith as the design contractor. The design firm will complete a field survey of the park and create a draft design by August.

That design will then be sent to the Plan Commission for further review in October. The project details were shared in official meeting documents.

Next Steps

The Common Council meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the City Hall Council Chambers, located at 3805 South Casper Drive. The Council will decide whether to approve raSmith for the design work. If approved, construction of the pickleball courts will follow the removal of the Community Center later this year.
