Pickleball Courts Coming to Sugar Land: Sugar Land residents will soon have four new pickleball courts at City Park. The Sugar Land City Council approved a contract to build the courts on May 6, 2025. The project will cost $152,250 and will be completed by McKenna Contracting Inc.
The new courts will be located at 225 Seventh Street, where the park already has other recreational facilities like a playground, pavilion, sand volleyball court, and a tennis court with pickleball striping. William Hajdik, the parks and recreation assistant director for Sugar Land, explained that City Park is the perfect location due to its central position in the city, nearby existing facilities, parking, and restrooms.
Project Details
The construction contract includes more than just the courts. The project will also add fencing, court surfacing, and nets. Sidewalks will connect the new courts to the existing parking lot and pavilion, making it easier for visitors to access the area. The project will be funded through sales tax collected by the Sugar Land 4B Corp.
Timeline for Construction
Construction is set to begin later this summer and will take about four months to complete, according to William Hajdik. Once finished, the new courts will provide residents with dedicated spaces for pickleball, a growing sport in the community.
“A location for these dedicated pickleball courts was identified at City Park, which is ideal due to its central location in the city, proximity to existing tennis/pickleball courts, use of existing park facilities, parking and restrooms, and suitability for four additional dedicated pickleball courts.” – (William Hajdik)
These new pickleball courts are a valuable addition to Sugar Land’s recreational options. The facility will offer residents more opportunities to enjoy the sport and will help meet the growing demand for pickleball spaces. The project also highlights the city’s commitment to providing top-quality amenities for its residents.
