Sportime Pickleball Yorktown Set to Redefine Year-Round Play with 12 New Pickleball Courts

Sportime Pickleball Yorktown, a major new indoor pickleball facility, is set to open later in 2025 at the Yorktown Green strip center in Yorktown Heights, New York. The facility will feature 12 indoor courts across 20,000 square feet of playing space, offering players a year-round location to enjoy the sport. The center is being developed by Sportime Clubs LLC, the largest tennis club operator in New York State.

The new pickleball center will be part of a growing lineup of businesses at Yorktown Green, including T.J. Maxx, Five Below, Michael’s, and Uncle Giuseppe’s supermarket. The location was chosen for its ideal space, active pickleball community, and strong local interest.

A New Home for Pickleball

Sportime Clubs LLC, based in New York, operates more than 20 sports locations with 192 tennis courts and 95 pickleball courts. The company chose Yorktown because of its large available space and rising interest in the sport.

Claude Okin, President and CEO of Sportime Clubs LLC, said, “Pickleball generally is not played on dedicated spaces. It started as a gym sport or a blacktop sport.” He explained that Yorktown’s courts will offer better playing conditions than most hybrid or shared courts in nearby towns like Somers and Peekskill.

Finding a commercial space wide enough for pickleball was not easy. Okin noted, “The outer dimensions of the playing space need to be at least 30 feet wide and 60 feet long, and that’s very hard to find because most commercial spaces are 22 to 28 feet between columns.”

“And then we look at local demand, population density. Is this an area where we see signs that pickleball has taken root or is spreading? Then there’s the demographic cross-section of ages. Are there enough folks we think would want to indulge. Is it a high-traffic location? Yorktown checked most or all of the boxes.” – (Claude Okin)

High Demand in the Community

Joseph Siegel, Managing Director of Sportime, said there is strong interest in the area. “Of all the clubs that we are opening later in 2025, Yorktown seems to have the most buzz in regards to social media.”

He added that the app Team Reach, which local players use to organize games, showed how eager the community is. “The community can’t wait,” Siegel said. He estimated that thousands of players could use the new facility, many living just 15 to 20 minutes away.

“We think people will come from a fairly long distance – 30 to 45 minutes maximum, with the core coming from up to 15-20 minutes away. We think Yorktown is great and we think people will come from a fairly long distance north and south.” – (Claude Okin)

More Than Just Courts

The new Sportime Pickleball Yorktown will offer a full experience, not just court time. Each location will include a full-time general manager, a pickleball director, certified coaches, and programs like clinics, tournaments, and junior training.

“There already is a pickleball retail store in Yorktown,” said Okin, referring to Paddle Pro on Front Street. “At the moment, almost every market is dramatically underserved.”

Sportime aims to meet the needs of casual and serious players. Okin said some people play once a week, while others play three to five times a week. “We want to give them a great reason to play year-round.” Low-cost memberships will allow players to book courts in advance and enjoy added benefits compared to non-members.

A Sport for All Ages

Though many current players are Baby Boomers, Sportime sees pickleball as a game for everyone.

“Kids are introduced to tennis and volleyball in elementary school, play on middle school and high school teams, then college opportunities, professional and even Olympics. I think pickleball over time will follow the same trajectory. We see it in summer camps where kids like it more than tennis because it’s easier to pick up. Eventually, the average age will go much lower than it is now.” – (Joseph Siegel)

“Sportime Pickleball Yorktown may very well wind up being our best pickleball club just in terms of I think the whole experience it offers. The way it lays out and the partnerships we’re going to make with the community and the surrounding areas, I just think it’s going to be a great place to play.” – (Claude Okin)
