Liberty Park Opens New Pickleball Courts—Cerritos’ Fastest-Growing Sport Gets a Major Boost

Liberty Park Pickleball Courts: The City of Cerritos, California, opened eight new pickleball courts at Liberty Park on May 12, 2025. The new courts were celebrated with a ribbon-cutting led by the Cerritos City Council. This expansion helps meet the growing demand for pickleball in the community.

The new courts were built by turning two old tennis courts into dual-use areas. Each can hold four pickleball courts. This project was approved in April 2025 and completed quickly to serve local players.

Mayor Frank Aurelio Yokoyama said, “Cerritos has a beautiful parks system, and the City Council and our staff take pride in not only maintaining these venues but ensuring they offer robust amenities.”

More Courts Across the City

Liberty Park now has 13 outdoor pickleball courts. Across Cerritos, there are 23 courts total. Ten are located at Don Knabe Community Regional Park.

People can also play indoor pickleball on Sundays at the Community Gymnasium at Whitney High School. These options give players more places to enjoy the sport year-round.

Open Play Details

The new courts at Liberty Park are open to the public. They are available for drop-in use on a first-come, first-served basis. Sometimes, courts may be reserved for city-run programs.

Spring and summer hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and weekends. During fall and winter, weekend hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

When people are waiting, players must limit their game to one round up to 11 points. This ensures fair use of the space. Liberty Park is located at 19211 Studebaker Road.

Why It Matters

Pickleball has become very popular across the U.S., and Cerritos is seeing that trend, too. The city’s leaders are making sure parks have the right spaces for everyone to play.

These new courts offer more chances for people of all ages to stay active, meet others, and enjoy the outdoors. With more facilities now open, Cerritos continues to grow as a welcoming place for sports and recreation.
