Nokomis Community Park’s Pickleball Courts: Sarasota County has officially reopened Nokomis Community Park after completing major improvements. The upgrades include eight new lighted pickleball courts, two new tennis courts, and accessible features for people with disabilities. The park is located at 234 Nippino Trail East in Nokomis and covers 17 acres.
Sarasota County Commissioner Tom Knight and Luke Thema played pickleball with Nicole Rissler and Stephen Shaw during the dedication event to celebrate the reopening. Shawn Yeager, Sarasota’s senior parks and recreation manager, walked around the park to make sure everything was ready and in order.
Park Features and Additions
The new pickleball and tennis courts are fully lighted and include ADA access. Shaded areas were added next to the courts to give visitors a place to cool off. There are also scattered picnic areas with shade across the park.
New restroom facilities have been built as part of the park’s upgrades. The improvements support active and relaxed activities for people of all ages.
More Amenities Available
The Nokomis Community Park Main Hall now offers indoor rental space. There is a large playground, a covered outdoor basketball court, and extra picnic shelters for public use. Visitors can also enjoy the canoe and kayak launch, a fishing pier, and a shell trail that links directly to the Legacy Trail.
Shawn Yeager walked through the park during the event, making sure that the improvements were complete and everything was working properly. The Legacy Trail, which runs alongside the park, provides easy access for walkers, runners, and bikers.
Community Use and Next Steps
The large covered picnic area can be reserved by calling 311. These additions aim to serve residents and visitors, making the park a better place for sports, family gatherings, and outdoor fun.
The improved park is expected to draw more people from across the area and give them more reasons to stay active and connected to their community.
