Siblings Drive Wellington City Pickleball Court Proposal Forward with Facts and Funding Ideas

Wellington City Pickleball Court Proposal: Wellington City leaders heard from young residents on May 14, 2025, about adding pickleball courts to the community. During the public comment period of the city’s regular meeting, siblings Tristan Anderson and Rayney Anderson asked the council to study court options and explore funding through available grants.

Youth Push for Pickleball Courts

Rayney Anderson opened by sharing facts about pickleball’s fast growth and how more cities are building courts. She explained that while Wellington has nice outdoor areas, many players must leave town to find places to play.

“While our city has wonderful outdoor spaces, we have seen a growing interest in pickleball locally and right now residents often have to travel outside Wellington to play.” – (Rayney)

Rayney added that nearby cities have used grants to build courts. Tristan Anderson then discussed costs and explained how those same grants could help Wellington.

“We respectfully ask the council to initiate a feasibility study to access potential court locations and finalized cost estimates.” – (Tristan)

The Andersons also offered to help with volunteer work and grant writing if the project moves forward.

City Leaders Respond

Mayor Jack Clark thanked the siblings for their effort. He said the city would review the resources they mentioned and confirmed the city has already started applying for grants.

Council members also said they were impressed that Tristan and Rayney Anderson came prepared with helpful information and ideas to support the project.
